You've done all your work, but nothing happens

  • You're off book
  • You've read the script
  • You rehearsed with a coach beforehand
  • You're listening and responding
  • You're the perfect physical type for the character in the breakdown
  • You get great feedback in the room
  • The director loves you
  • The casting director loves you
  • Even the producers in the room couldn't stop laughing and smiling
  • So, of course, get a callback
  • And Goddess, Help us...You even get a screen test! (clutches her pearls)

And when all is said and done,

they decide to go another way

Seriously, WTF

All that time,
money and
effort wasted...

And to add insult to injury,
when you see the finished project, they cast someone who looks NOTHING like the breakdown. 

What the actual F*ck happened?

And why does this keep happening over and over again?

You're at the point, that when you enter a casting office, it's like talking to your neighborhood barista who knows your order:

Blonde Ambition, CallBack Queen Latte: Hungry for a Booking, hold the whip.

The casting assistant has everything set up just the way you like it .

The reader is a friends-with- benefits repeat offender (I mean you've been coming to this office for years)

And the casting director wants to see ALL your Costa-Rica-Vacay-Sunset-yoga-selfies

While it's good to have a welcoming home in this industry...

It's even better to ACTUALLY book the job.

But this eludes you time and time again.

Year after year
Heavens forfend,
even decade after decade...

Even a callback queen knows that doing the same thing over and over again in perpetuity while expecting a different outcome is insanity of the highest order....

So, what can be done?
Do you content yourself with booking every now and then? Just enough to make paying your SAG dues worth it. 
  • Do you change your prayers and affirmations?
  • Get new headshots?
  • Change your hair color?
  • Get a personal trainer and starve yourself til you achieve those child-size hips...

But even if you do all of this, guess what?

The next time you get a callback, but no booking, they'll end up casting a curvy woman who mysteriously
looks exactly like you... PRE-MAKEOVER!

YOU ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.

IT'S YOUR APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM THAT STANDING IN YOUR WAY.
