ULTIMATE 30 min OnCamera Audition Prep Technique
CURRICULUM
WEEK 4 - PUTTING TOGETHER THE PIECES
Audition Prep 5 mins before you walk into the audition
Go back to your week 2 answers to the questions about your scene that you just worked 9 times fast.
- What did you determine the major emotional chord was for that scene that spoke to you.
-What is the emotional event of this scene
- What emotion got you everytime you think about it?
What was it?
9/10 it's always going to be one of our secret fears that drives us...that's so close to us, we can summon that emotion in heartbeat by just thinking about it...and really thats all you have to do for the camera...just think it.
Which one of your secret fears are exposed in this scene?
Here's a hint:
whatever made you laugh out loud
whatever made you cry
whatever made you come to a full emotional life.
That is your hottest emotional chord.
Loss of Love
Fear of disappointing someone
Fighting for Justice for someone other than yourself
It doesn't have to be any of these things....these are just random examples of emotional themes so you can get an idea of what it is you're looking for.
This is your Prep: Throw it away when you start the scene, leave the homework at home.
1. What is the character's major problem that resonates with your emotional chords?
2. How did it make you feel...just go still and think about that experience
3. What was the moment that fell on you like a ton of bricks
4. When was the last time you felt like that?
5. Take a moment to sit with that.
6. Then begin the scene, listening to what's being said and responding from your deepest truths.
That's it.
It's so much easier than we make it.
All the camera wants to see is that you're are related to and understand the emotional stakes of the scene like the back of your hand. And then the camera wants to see you go through the experience, take the emotional ride...not work out acting moments...The camera loves to watch you listening and letting the other person happen to you for the first time.
RECAP
The only way to do that is:
1. Know Your Emotional Chord that connects you to this scene
2. Do the 9 times fast exercise
3. See the scene in your minds eye. Let the feelings flow through you. Then start talking, listening and truly responding in the moment.

- Write down all of your lines only like a monologue then throw the scene in the garbage or give it to your scene partner and never read the entire scene ever again.
(Trust this experiment....let's see what happens)
Audition Prep: 9 times Fast
This entire
- Take the first sentence of the monologue and repeat it 9 times fast (no acting) just repeat it by rote
- Take the second sentence of the monologue and repeat it 9 times fast (no acting) just repeat it by rote
- Then say both lines like a single monologue and repeat them 9 times fast.
- Take the third sentence of the monologue and repeat it 9 times fast (no acting) just repeat it by rote
- - Then say all three lines like a single monologue and repeat them 9 times fast.
Continue this way, repeating each new line 9 times fast and then repeating all the previous lines plus the new one you just did 9 times fast until you get to the end of your monologue.
You should be able to say your entire monologue faster than light...because you've taught your muscles those words. Do not, I repeat, do not worry about acting. Just say the lines out loud. The longer you do this...the better you get at it
