What is the
DreamingOutLoud
Writers Technique?
Each person was put here to learn four major life lessons. It's written in your spiritual DNA. It's either something you didn't get right in a past life or something your ancestors have been struggling with for centuries and you are finally equipped to put this lesson to rest.
These four major life lessons form the basis of your emotional type. Each emotional type has a set of recurring themes that come up for them. For example, Eugene O'Neil wrote about the nature of destructive solitude as an integral part of family life. All of his work dealt with this theme and he wrote about his family. The characters were complicated, layered and he understood every unspoken motivation, the deepest fears and the deepest wounds of each of his characters. And as the writer exploring the human condition, he built these characters with compassion and empathy. We watch them struggle with their fears in real time. The result is mesmerizing.
He took a set of emotions he knew intimately, that had been handed down to him through generations and exposed not only the source of the fear, but its effects and the problems that resulted from not solving these life lessons.
These are Recurring Emotional Chords. Each person has four major chords and the DreamingOutLoud Writers Technique is about discovering those chords and using them to create
1. Complicated, extraordinary characters who feel, breath and move through the world like fragile gods in search of purpose
and
2. Action packed, high stakes storytelling in a structure that is driven by the emotional imperatives of these characters and their need to finally learn these lessons.
I've written two plays and produced 5 films using this technique and coached dozens of first time writers from the beginning to a fully realized production. I am absolutely ecstatic for the opportunity to teach this technique and give you the powerful tools to ReWrite Your Story.
Let's. Do. This.
