i once had a lawyer who spent more time trying to accomodate the other party in a negotiation than trying to get me what I asked for. He was a very fearful people pleaser. #
So I recognize it in agents/managers who refuse to ask for something unusual in a contract negotiation bec their thinking, is, why should I ask for something you won’t get? When in reality, this agent/manager is really thinking abt keeping a CD or a producer happy and not their client. They don’t want to rock the boat, but prefer u to settle for what they give you instead of what you deserve given the time, money, training, free work, skills set you’ve acquired in your career.
If ur ever going to make it out of a mid career plateau, you have to decide to become the CEO of ur team and then hire a team who is down with the business strategy uv decided to go with...that’s the only way ull ever get what you deserve.
and if that’s too scary, keep doing what ur doing and see how that works out...
