Repost from @ericasbreamcast•
"I’m often asked to walk people through audition numbers. How many people audition? How many people get sent on to producers? How many people do you pin? And the reality is that those equations are incredibly fluid. They vary from project to project, role to role and depend a good amount on the Casting Director, plus the creative team’s preferences. But the thing you SHOULD know is that the moment you get the audition, you’ve already been selected to be in a small pool of contenders. Casting Directors do not see everyone who is “technically right” for a role. We are specific, selective. Based on what we know of the character, the project, the arc, our producers’ tastes, and the actors’ abilities, we wade through (potentially) thousands of actors until we whittle our choices down to a group of people we feel have real potential to be cast in that role. Sometimes we request auditions from only 1-2% of the total people who have been submitted. Sometimes that percentage is closer to 25%. But it’s almost NEVER (except in very, VERY specific circumstances,) 100% of the total submissions. Which means that with any audition, you’ve already crossed one big hurdle. The moment you receive your request, you are firmly in contention for that part. That audition signifies that out of the many, MANY people submitted, Casting feels YOU could really make this character come to life. Focus on the work and don’t worry about those other fluctuating numbers. You aren’t going to do a better or worse job if you know how many other people are reading for your role, so enjoy the audition “win”. And trust that if Casting is inviting you to read, they’re excited to see your take on the character. -Erica Bream Casting #CastingLovesYou #WeAreOnTheOtherSideOfTheInternetButWereStillExcitedToSeeYou See less to me I’m often asked to walk people through audition numbers.
