As God is my witness, this video should be required viewing for every aspiring artist, not just actors. Yes, yes, yes, this, a thousand times, THIS! ^^^
This is Triple Confirmation and I truly, THANK YOU for being candid, direct, real and dispelling every doubt that I was literally beginning to allow myself to stay STINKING THINKING ABOUT! I LOVE YOU & PRAY YOUR CONTINUED SUCCESS AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO DO THINKING ABOUT IT AND BRING ABOUT IT!
Can't wait for the next video! Thanks April for demystifying, breaking it down, and inspiring me to unlock the dream! It's about time I did.
my pleasure, rodney...please let me know if you have questions?
I am an actor and filmmaker based in Toronto, Canada. In wanting to work in L.A. is there anything in your coaching or seminars that addresses getting the work visas or whatever I need to be able to access that market? (I've heard that agents/managers won't even take a meeting with you without your papers being in order)
The good thing is that I'm not limited by geography in building a following, just wondering if there's any potential pitfalls I should be aware of (visa-wise) now, so I can plan to deal with it?
I'd build a strong social media following...that will make you sexier to U.S. casting directors and get you more auditions....you should probably also make your own on camera work unless you have extensive Canadian TV/Film credits....
otherwise, I can tell you as indie film producer currently trying to get a Canadian film into the American market, you need to be hired by an American production company. In order for me to get this film produced, I need half of the cast to be Americans with a lot of TV/Film credits and all the Canadians have huge American & Canadian film credits otherwise, I'd never be able to raise money for this film.
I'd call SAG-AFTRA in US. to be sure, but that's pretty much how it goes...
You need a sexy project and then a marketing strategy to get it out there fast so that you can get hired in the US....You need both because unless the project is shooting in Canada, it costs more to hire you as a producer...so that's never something that makes us happy.....and if we can find a cheaper way to go, we always will in order to get the film made...
And yes, the bootcamp covers exactly what you need to do: create a project, market it, fundraise and get it produced and gain a huge following...
