WHAT I LEARNED ON THE SET OF CBS' BULL

this is the 4th time i’ve walked into the 1st day of rehearsal & the director has asked me to shave my head...my reply: where’s the clippers & what time is break? Naysayers: agents, teachers, managers kept saying u need hair, no one in the business looks like u: u’ll only play nurses, maids & angry working class dykes....and i thought, the dykes in my family have long hair (but i digress)....the reality is each of the characters i’ve played all had shaved heads and i can always say no to nurses, maids & unrealistic dykes (im jus sayin) ...these directors who cast me had envisioned my character w/a shaved head or no hair at all. Even when shaved heads were taboo, I was cast in A Raisin in the Sun, 3rd Watch, Medea and now BULL bald as hell... i guess u just gotta be your most authentic self & wait for the rest of the world to stop being so afraid bec apparently shaving your head is a big deal for some people...not my reality...guess i should take the hint and stop buying hair when i get bored or its too cold...i will say, i’m super proud and overjoyed to meet fearless artists with vision willing to take risks and are committed to truth...cuz this is how all black women look the day they were born...but shortly thereafter, we’re all taught to be ashamed of the way we looked when we came out our mothers wombs...ironically, that’s the same day that everyone kept saying we were the most beautiful...sigh... #thewaymymamamademe . . . . . #lifecoaching #coach #actorslife #actor #dreamingoutloudtechnique #goddessshit #actress #emotionaltype #bruja #blackgirlmagic #actresslife #raisininthesun #dreamingoutloud #bookedit #thirdwatch #pilotseason #gueststar #medea #bullcbs #blackhair #Badassactor #actorsarsenal #thedreamunlocked #setlife
