The quickest way to move into Film/TV is:
Are you Ready? Don't hate me: Stop doing theatre. Your reps don't work as hard to get you film/tv auditions while your'e doing plays because of the conflicts. The time when people were discovered in plays is over. Movie/TV stars are now doing plays off broadway and in the regions, so theatre actors are about to be replaced anyway. Wake up folks. If your dream is to work in film/tv, then you need to make room, time and space for that to happen. If you already have tons of theatre credits, stop doing theatre and create room for TV/Film jobs. The great news is that you'll also send a really strong message to your agent or manager that you're finally serious about moving into film/tv. They'll start working harder to make that happen once you commit to it. Pull together an arsenal that is worthy of TV/Film jobs: resume, headshot, reel, website. Create a marketing strategy that screams, 'I am a TV/Film actor.' Can you do what those actors do: - memorize pages of sides in minutes, show up to an audition looking like the people on TV shows look? Handle the fast pace or stillness that each TV show requires. Each show has it's own writing/acting style, have you worked on sides from all the shows you're right for and dying to be on. You have a lot of work you need to be doing if you want to be working in TV/Film. You have so much work to do that you actually don't have time to be doing free play readings and plays that don't pay you enough to live on. If you've paid your dues in theatre, it's time to move on. And guess what, once you start working in Film/TV, no one will ask you to work in theatre for free: they'll just offer you the part, no audition required.
